I'll be moving back to the Somerset area (after an extended absence) in April-May of 2012 with my Chinese wife. Does anyone know if there is some sort of support group for Chinese transplants in the area? My internet searches (including this site) have turned up nothing. I'm trying to make her trasition as smooth as possible. Any locals on here that can help me out?

Thanks,
E

Default Chinese community in areas "surrounding" somerset?

Mostly just trying to get this thread back on the 1st page...in case anybody has any knowledge on the subject it'll be easier to see.

Also, the "surrounding" from this post's title is approximately 20-30 miles...

Thanks

I know there are two or three Chinese restaurants in Somerset. Not sure where everyone lives though. I do know some Chinese folks live in the Lancaster area, however that may be outside of the "20 - 30 mile" range.

Sorry I am not more helpful but maybe that will give a start.

Hope you folks have a nice move back and that things come together very smoothly for you both!

It's about an hour and a half up the road, but there's a large Chinese community in Lexington, many of whose members are affiliated with the University of Kentucky. Perhaps you could tap into their social events and find some weekend activities which you and your wife could attend.

There's not going to be much of a "Chinese Community" in any town the size of Somerset.

This is completely correct. Somerset isn't big enough to have a real big community of anything in it. I don't remember there being much of any communities there while I was growing up.

That said, Lexington has a booming Chinese community and it's only an hour away from Somerset.
