Well I live across the river from Kentucky in southern Ohio and just had a new metal roof put on my house and garage.

1.it has a 40 year guarantee

2.it can save you up to 20% on energy costs a year [felt cooler upstairs this summer]

3.$750 tax deduction

4.looks good [light grey]

The metal roofs are a bit pricey but i will never have to worry about another roof it will out live me.Our house was built in 1922 and went thru the 1937 flood and is still solid and sound roofers remarked how plumb it was.

Ditto above- I had a new metal roof installed on my home this past summer.
It was the last roof I will ever have to buy and it is gorgeous!

Metal roofs were used much more in the south and have made somewhat of a comeback in some places. They hold up much better in the extreme heat than shingles do. We also have a lot of severe weather in KY such as storms with straight line winds, hail and tornadoes which can make keeping a roof on a house a challenge. Some insurance companies offer discounts for having a metal roof.

Some of it is just aesthetics...the look fits in with some neighborhoods, but in others not so much. Some people love the sound of rain on the metal roof.

Many roofs are being replaced with metal ones in this area. Many colors to choose from and maintenance free..

That right there is the main reason why I would want a metal roof! So soothing, put you right to sleep.

Metal roofs are also common in New England as the weight of the snow tends to slide right off. Therefore, they are also practical for the snowbelt as well.

We first put on a metal roof for our house in Florida following the year of the hurricane train. Then when we moved to KY and built a new house here, we insisted on the metal roof for all the reasons listed. Ours are Blue... on our house and our 3 barns and two storage sheds that we've built over the last 4 years. The company we buy from is not far from here and all you have to do is bring them the measurements or a CAD drawing of your roof and they will figure out the size of each strip of metal and cut it for you, give you matching screws. I think flashing and roof vents are extra.

There's a house not too far from us that has a red roof. I think it looks cool but my wife says it's ugly. At least she doesn't think I'M ugly...
