We might be relocating from Colorado to the Williamsburg Area. I would really like to find a house with acreage and mountain type views. Can anyone direct me to the right place to be looking for real estate? Thanks a lot!

Well, let me start off by saying I'm not the kind of person that is going to trash Eastern Kentucky. I am very proud of where I came from, I just don't think I would go back. Williamsburg is a wonderful place, just not much to do.

We currently live in a quiet mountain town on our own little 2 acres. We hardly ever see the neighbors, never hear traffic nor planes flying over head. We have to travel 20 minutes to the new super wal-mart (it just opened last week before that we traveled 60 minutes to one), it is basically just a quiet little mountain community. We are not big on suburbs and tract housing. We preferred the quiet and privacy. However we are open to pretty much anything. Wish I would have stayed off the boards though. It was a little discouraging to hear what everyone has to say. So I went to the Colorado Boards and I guess where you live is what you make of it. I love it in the Colorado Rockies and some people absolutely hate it. Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it.

I hope I have not discouraged you! I would have never changed a thing about where or how I grew up. My Floridian husband and I are in the process of moving to Northern Kentucky as we speak.
I read the boards and it blows me away the people put down South Eastern Kentucky. Most of those people have never been to Kentucky, they watched Coal Minors Daughter and Next of Kin and now they think they know everything.

If it's similar to where my family lives in rural South Central Kentucky I'd guess no more than several thousand per acre. You could probably find a nice house for under $50,000. The main issue down there is environmental problems due to surface mining. Some areas have really bad ground water, vibrations from explosions also cause problems. Of course not everywhere in SE Kentucky has coal mining, so these problems aren't everywhere.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but, I don't think there has been any strip mining, to any extent since late 70's...early 80's. I don't think I would be too concerned about bad ground water at this point. I have seen some wells go dry and water turn bad in the past but....how many people have wells these days? Even in SE Kentucky we have CITY water believe it or not and some of us even wear shoes....imagine that

I'll agree with the land....probably 3,000...to...25,000 an acre, location, location, location but, that's what they say anywhere you go huh. 50,000 dollar house that's possible but not probable, at least for me. It all depends on what works for you.
