I agree about this being an interesting thread. I found the first post amusing because the first line spoke about how great the people were and you go down a couple of sentences and the people are "clannish, suspicious of strangers, don't like Yankees, etc."
Each individual is going to have a different experience when they go to any state. I believe a lot of it depends on your own energy. If you're going to walk around suspicious or leery of people, you're going to have negative experiences. If you approach people with a smile and a positive attitude, they will respond in a good manner for the most part. You've going to encounter people anywhere and everywhere who take a negative attitude about life in general. It's isn't something which is indigenous to one state.
I've had people come to my home from all over the U.S. and they were very impressed with Kentucky. They couldn't believe how friendly it is and they also loved the beauty of the state. Due to the state of affairs in our country since 9/11, people are more cautious than they used to be all over this country.
We are each entitled to our own opinion. Just because we don't see eye to eye regarding Kentucky, it only shows how different each individual can see things differently. I happen to love living here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else (and I have lived in other states). I wasn't born and raised here but I've always been accepted with open arms.
Each to his own.
