Can anyone give me the scoop on this area? I work in outside sales in Tennessee and am thinking of expanding my marketing to some conveniently located areas in Kentucky. I know Paducah isn't far from Clarksville, so I was thinking it might be a viable option. However, according to City-Data the population is only like 26,000. Huh? For some reason I was thinking it was much larger than that.

What's the deal here?

Thanks,

Flex

I, myself have never been to Paducah, but have some information on it that may help you. Your population estimate is correct. According to the 2000 census, there were 26,307 people living in the city of Paducah. Paducah is the largest city in the Jackson Purchase Region of Western Kentucky (the counties comprising the extreme SW of KY).

Sorry I can't provide more info and good luck in your business.

Wink Paducah info

Lived 26 years just north of Paducah in So. Illinois. Been to Paducah lots of times. No city is large in that neck of the woods. Paducah IS the biggest place for many miles around. Mixed area. Not too bad on crime. Prices not bad. Not very cosmopolitan if that's what you're looking for. Not a bad place, but not very exciting either.

Default Here is the deal.

Paducah is hemmed in on all sides by suburbs. If you add the populations of all the suburbs up you'll discover the population is in the 60k range. Paducah is the primary medical and retail center for far West Ky., Southern ILL', and S.E. Mo. The daytime population swells to probably 100k easy. Paducah, I promise you, is very urban. Two major hospitals, a symphony, a law school, a horse track, a casino located on the Ill' side of the river, and every chain store known to mankind. In addition it is a major convention venue. Every night you will find someone in the realm of Willie Nelson or Bill Cosby at the Executive Inn. It is also one of the largest river ports in middle america. It has so many art galleries it's known as the Paris of America. It is the Headquarters of the World Quilters Society and they have a world class museum downtown. It has a Federal Court. It even has it's own magazine, "Paducah Style". Are you starting to get it? It may not be New York, but it's sure not Mayberry either.
