That is so cool. Mayfield has been a town we have looked into as well to move to eventually. My husband and I would like to live in western KY. I have looked at so many other areas, and keep coming back to that area. I hope you enjoy it there. Seems like the people are very nice on the forum and helpful. I live in Northern KY about 50 north of Lexington right now.

My brother lived outside Hopkinsville in Western Kentucky (on the other side of the Land Between the Lakes area from Mayfield). It was nice and the people were polite and friendly. The Amish community was interesting to me - had no idea they had settled there. My brother was so outgoing and friendly he could even get them to chat with him (and they seemed pretty shy).

Beau, there are several Amish communities in western Ky. When I lived in Sturgis, a trip down the road to Mattoon (about halfway to Marion) to the Amish was the best way to make repairs to your house. Their good, quick and priced fair. Only thing was you had to go pick them up, but it was worth it.
An older neighbor took me to talk to an Amish man about replacing a floor in my house. While we were talking, his 6 daughters came out of the house. My friend told the Amish man if they had electricity then they would lay there watching TV all night and wouldn't be making babies. The Amish man looked back, grinning, and said "Why do you think we don't want electricity?" lol

I realize this is an older post, but am wondering if anyone can give an idea of the winter snowfall amounts in the Mayfield area? Just a stab in the dark average would be greatly appreciated. We're in rural Central Illinois...and 25" in a winter isn't unheard of.

Thanks in advance,
Andy
