What is a good friendly rural county for cabins, fishing, rocking chairs, and banjo picking? I am going on vacation to look for a nice rural place to relax that hasn't much changed in the past 50-60 years I am a 22 year old banjo picker and might retire there later on.

Any Kentucky county, my goodness take your pick!

I'd say "Red River Gorge" "Natural Bridge State Park" in Powell ( or is it Menifee county?

By the way: I play the Banjo, but only simple clawhammer fretless style Banjo. My primary instrument is the Fiddle, some old time fiddle but mostly Bluegrass. I also like to sing, mostly tenor..

I'm looking to vacation in a small rural town of less than 500 people with a hardware store, a Inn, and a diner. Anyone know any place like that?

Sounds like my momma's hometown in western Kentucky....they even have an IGA Supermarket AND a new gas station! I really think you should consider maybe an area around Kentucky Lake or even Lake Cumberland...I'm sure if you do alot of research you'll find something. Rough River Lake is nice too....I used to go there alot as a kid. It's a nice state park and they have a few little town nearby like Falls Of Rough, Short Creek etc.....cabins, fishing, it's all there.

Question, you say you're looking for a community with an Inn and Diner? What kind? In particular are you looking for a dine where you can have a beer with dinner. That would narrow down the suggestions I might make.

If you like Whiskey you need to stick near LaRue and Nelson counties in Kentucky. Unless if you like the illegal stuff, probably got that just about anywhere in rural Ky if you know someone who knows someone LOL... ( joking

I mean, I can think of almost a zillion places, anywhere in Kentucky in the rural areas fits your description just about

This is gonna be my first trip to Kentucky, I would like someone whose been there to just name a few places. Oh and I do like corn-squeezins but I'd prefer not to have to buy moonshine off the back of a truck at least for my first trip.

Well I gave you some areas, some good ones. Land Between The Lakes try Trigg, Lyon, Marshall, Calloway counties and little communites.
You could also look at Lake Cumberland which is really nice Russel, Wayne counties down there. I did name a few spots. Red River Gorge you can rent cabins, fish, that's back in the mountains there.

Hmmm, well I'm not sure about the banjo picking, but as for the others I might suggest Burnside Kentucky. It's not too large, about 700 people, but it is right next to Somerset KY if you want to go to the Big Town. Now the Master Musicians festival is in Somerset (not sure of the date) and it will no doubt have some banjo picking.

Another place that comes to mind is Jamestown, although I do believe it is a dry town. Burnside is not.

If I think anywhere else I'll add to my list.
