Thank you for proving my point.

You can rubuke all of it? The population of Calloway County has not exploded...rebuke it. There is only one heart doctor at MCCH...rebuke it. The city of Murray has yet to pass a smoking ban...rebuke it. The streets are clogged with passing through semi-trucks...rebuke it. The park gets vandalized even though the city just hired two park rangers...rebuke it. I can go on and on and on.

What would be the point? You mind is set.

Many towns don't have even one heart doctor. How many do you need? You got more than one heart?
How many times has the park been vandalized? Once in how many years?
No smoking ban? Ever hear of freedom of choice? You don't like smoking don't go there, why does there need to be a ban? Be thankful they haven't passed a no whining ban. Many businesses in Paducah have been hurt because of there smoking ban, it hasn't been the big success they'd hoped for. Like I said your not happy there, fine I'm not going to argue with you about it. Just because you don't like a place means it's bad for all, I do not believe you are the be all and end all of community opinion, rebuke it.

You have proved my point and I thank you. If you want shopping, restaurants, shows, and entertainment, you have to leave Murray. Not to mention decent healthcare and lower utility rates. That was my point. I won't get into the smoking ban issue with you. There is a whole other thread on here debating that issue. I guess with your logic, places like Paducah and Nashville and anywhere only need one heart doctor. Even Paris, TN has more heart doctors. Interesting for such a retirement capital. I never said it was bad for everyone. I was simply giving a glimpse of how things are in the retirement village.

----I hardly call a book that is the better part of being ten years old as being recent, but nice try!

Murray completely "fell apart" in less than 10 years?

---did it list Murray by name-----

yes, over and over and over.(it talked about Murray State also, mentioned the newspaper in Murray, -----------(I'm sorry if "good publicity" about Murray offends you so much)

Too bad the book is out of print because it is so old. I would like to read exactly what it says. Maybe I can find one in a bargin bin somewhere. It won't be in Murray. They don't have a real bookstore for the general public, like a Books-a-Million or B&N. Now, once again, I will ask for some recent publicity on Murray being a retirement mecca. Thanks in advance.

You read only what you want I listed many thing in Murray to do and places to eat and shows and entertainment at the college, but you read over it and dismiss it. So your point if anything is disproved, all that is proven is you don't like Murray and that's about it. Fine, no problem.

I don't know anything about the heart doctors in Murray, it's supply and demand maybe one enough. I don't know, I don't need one. Then again I don't need a barber either, so if Murray or any town only had one barber it would mean little to me. A heart doctor is a specialist and most specialist are located in regional hospitals not every community hospital has every professional medical specialist. You just can't have some high dollar specialist setting around hoping someone needs a bypass. To equate Nashville and Paducah with Murray is just foolish, they have regional medical centers not community medical centers, there is a difference. That's not my logic, it's yours. Strange how you read into to things. It seems you want big city amenities in a small town.

And your glimpse is very jaded and extremely negative.

Wow, I wonder if the person who posted the original question is even following this exchange at this point I can't resist chiming in since I relocated to the Murray area (actually Marshall Co. near Hardin) about 6 months ago. I posted a similar general query about Murray before moving here which didn't result in the diatribes we're seeing now. My take on it is that both of you guys are right, it's just obvious that Davart loves it here and KYDad95 more or less hates it.

A lot of the points from both posters are perfectly valid. It's true the park was vandalized and a lot of the restaurants allow smoking, etc. I agree that a lot of the college students drive aggressively and traffic can get bad for a mile or two through the main drag in town. The hospital does seem to have sort of a bad reputation. Davart is also correct in pointing out that there are a lot of decent restaurants and alternatives to Wal-Mart for shopping, also a fair amount of recreational and cultural opportunities for a town of this size.

I've lived all over the place including 6 years abroad in 4 countries and a dozen states. I don't regret coming to this area. It's not paradise but no place is. The people around here are friendlier than you'll find in most places, I think both guys would agree on that. One thing this discussion points out is that no matter how much you read about a place, it will really be up to you to figure out whether you'll like it or not. One man's heaven is another man's hell. KYDad95 probably needs to keep looking for a place that suits him better. I know a woman who, after living here for a year and a half, feels exactly the same way about the place, just absolutely hates it. She's looking to move on. It's always going to be up to the individual ultimately. Hope you guys can agree to disagree.

And fun thing is I don't even live in Murray, I just find it counter productive to run a place down just because it doesn't fit 'you' ... be fair and objective which some folks are not. I to know people that moved here and hated it and those that moved here and loved it, I find those that aren't happy here, weren't happy from were they come from and won't be happy were they go.
I've traveled the world too and lived in many countries, you can be happy anywhere is you want too.

Well I guess the fun is about over on this thread, and for once I wasn't at the center of the controversy.
