This question seems to be one on the mind of many. I think it is simple. It is because NC and TN are right to work states and businesses are more inclined to relocate and set up shop there as oppossed to a union state. If you look at just about all of the fastest growing states, (TX, NV, GA, NC, SC, UT etc.) they all are right to work states, in which most businesses prefer to operate in, thus more jobs, thus more growth. If Kentucky were to change it laws I guarantee in a couple of years the state would be booming like NC. Just my thought. But hey less people means less traffic

I think that is only one piece of a very large and complicated puzzle.

Agree. Our educational system seems to be a bigger draw-back to me. (It would also be nice to go more than two governorships in a row without a scandal!)

Education is better than what it use to be, it has improved greatly over decades ago. Albeit it's not stellar. Kentucky's rank is 34 (2006-2007) which is 4 over the prior ranking.
Smartest State 2006-2007

Yes to have a governor that is not involved in some scandal would be nice, I'm so sick of partisan politics on all levels of government I'm ready to succeed and start my own country.

Thank goodness for the deep south!

Frankly, going from 38th to 34th is still awful to me. To not even be in the upper half is an embarrassment for all Kentuckians, imo. On the other hand, at least we're headed in the right direction.

Tenn - has low taxes and alot of larger cities

NC - has great name recognition and accessibility to the East Coast, also alot of cities

KY - has comparatively higher taxes, and a government has many near misses of attracting new companies (ei Hyundai to E-town and Pharmaceuticals to Louisville)

You are correct. KY is 31 now, I typed the wrong number.

Be glad you are not in the glorious southwest ...

50. Arizona
49. Nevada
47. California
43. New Mexico

or paradise ...
42. Hawaii

California is a union state and it hasn't hurt them.

"Right to work" usually means the employees get screwed. It's not that great to work in a "right to work" state.
