I'd add Jean Ritchie's "Black Waters", and perhaps "The L & N Don't Stop
Here Anymore
Ive heard a good version of the L&N song by Michelle Shocked.

From the list a favorite is Darryl Scotts' You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive. Lyrics are the best. I know it via Patty Loveless' version. I really really like that song.....

Another vote for "Cold Kentucky Rain". Really does describe the winters sometimes.

And good call on Kentucky Woman on that list since the ID Deep Purples version, which is the one I know.

I still like that chorus from Steven Fosters My Old Kentucky Home...you know..."Weep No more my lady..." still gets me choked up and watery eyed when I sing it or hear it....

Ella Fitzgerald sang a song called "Louisville, KY." It's a pretty good one

I heard it on WFPK a while back. It's a nice tune. It also lends support to the notion that Louisville has traditionally been viewed as a southern type of city, despite some of it's midwestern characteristics. Southern skies, whippoorwills singing, trains.....all southern types of notions

There's also "Eight More Miles to Louisville" ("the hometown of my heart")
and of course, the traditional "Cumberland Gap", the lyrics of which include "Lay down boys, take a little nap, fourteen miles to the Cumberland Gap", "Doctor Walker, an English chap, first white man through the Cumberland Gap", and "Cumberland Gap's a noted place, three kinds of water to wash your face!").

Although I suppose Tennessee and Virginia could also rightfully claim the latter song.

If Kentucky sunshine can do that to the heart and soul, what can Kentucky moonshine do?
