I'm from Seattle and heading for the Smoky Mountains this fall, starting with a flight into Louisville. I'd like to take a few days in the area and visit some distilleries. I'm thinking since I have a strong appreciation for Makers Mark and Jim Beam I'd start there.

Any suggestions on some good tours?

This one should help you out. Kentucky Bourbon Trail - Where the Spirit Leads You
Click on map and turn by turn directions. Friends of mine spent part of this vacation checking this out and said they really enjoyed it. Said to get the passport. Kentucky Bourbon Trail® Passport - Kentucky Bourbon Trail

Only one I've been to was Jim Beam outside Bardstown. Didn't take the tour but got to look around and sample their lemonade. (don't drink alcohol) My wife, the not very occasional drinker, tried a sample of the bourbon and said it wasn't bad. We took the tour through the Jack Daniels distillery in Tennessee and you could almost get a DUI just from breathing the air there. lol

Have a good trip.

On my must do list would be Woodford Reserve. Their tasting at the end is very educational.

Make sure you do the urban tours if you are headed to Louisville.

Jim Beam, Evan Williams, and Peerless are all must sees. Much different experience than the outlying tours.

This is not a bad city itinerary:

Urban Bourbon Trail : BourbonCountry.com Official Travel Source

For the urban bourbon tour.

I would add that you need to get into some of the city neighborhoods.

At the very least, hit up Bardstown Rd and Frankfort Ave.

Bourbon's Bistro and Jack Fry's come to mind for good bourbon lists and outstanding food.

610 Magnolia is one of the top tables in the city, and it is located 2 blocks from beautiful St James and Belgravia courts. Worth a stop for pics.

Germantown and New Albany (IN) are also interesting little areas. Lots of great food. Monnik for beer or Finn's for southern food. In New Albany, try Gospel Bird for some fried chicken or New Albany Exchange. Lots to eat there and historic east main street is pretty there.

Here's something you could call an "early souvenir" of your bourbon tour.

If you're in the area of Frankfort, I recommend Buffalo Trace

Enjoy!
