Most of you regular Kentucky thread readers have read MoMan's posts about moving here to Mayfield from New York state last fall. I've visited with he and his wife several times and we've had each other over for dinner. Got a message from his wife this morning that he slipped on ice yesterday, twisted his leg and broke his hip. Scheduled for surgery later today here in Mayfield.
Just asking for thoughts and prayers for MoMan and his wife during surgery and recovery.

Folks,
Thanks for the well wishes, AND GMAN.. a HUGE Thank you for all you have done for both Sheri and I.
Here is the update:
On Monday I went out to feed the birds as there was ice and they were having a tough go of it getting the food from the feeder.
I was coming back into the garage when I slipped on the ice, I didn't go all the way down, but I did take some severe twists and turns to stay up.
I became incapacitated and Sheri got me to the hospital. Still not sure how she did it without calling the ambulance, but she did!
They x-rayed the hip and found that the femoral-head was fractured.
The orthopedic surgeon came in and showed it to us. He explained the drilling/pinning surgery that would be done.
He ordered a CT Scan to make sure the femoral-head was strong enough to support the required surgery.
The CT Scan showed a strong head, so surgery was scheduled for the next day (Tuesday afternoon).
Fast forward through a painful/sleepless Monday night even on morphine.
In comes the surgical prep nurse at 4:00 Tuesday morning to prep me for surgery, clean, shave, clean again, then the "relaxing" med into my IV.
The orthopedic surgeon came in later in the morning to tell me there may be a change in plans for the surgery!!??
He said the X-ray and CT Scan both showed that the fracture was still together, and the head is strong. His fear was that while the surgery would take, it could lead to a weakening of the head, and result in a possible partial hip replacement in 5-7 years.
He was going to confer with some others, including the radiologist and let me know his final decision.
Well he came back in later in the day and said the surgery was off.
The have me on a pain management program (I hate pain meds!!), and a steroid pack. I am on a walker for 6 weeks, followed by a cane until sometime in August. But, at least no surgery, and no 2nd surgery down the road.
He told me what is causing the pain is the stress/strain on the tendons, ligaments, and muscular tears. He said had I gone all the way down to the ground, surgery may have been inevitable.
I am so Blessed to have had a surgeon who made the right decision for his patient, and I made sure I told him so.

Needless to say, I am at home, resting comfortably (sort of!!). GMAN has been by to check on us.

Sheri has been a little bit of a cross between, the perfect nurse, and The Fuhrer!!

Ben, Thanks again for letting folks know what was going on, and a BIG Thank You for all the well wishes!!

P.S.; I spent 61 years in NY winters, climbing on and off of icy roofs in the winter, and not 1 winter time injury... come to KY get into my 1st winter, AND BLAM... down goes Frazier!!

Get well soon! Glad you avoided surgery - sounds as if you've got a great doc. Hope the imminent arrival of spring will help lift your spirits and expedite your recovery.
