Being or visiting certain places in the greater DC area simply don't take Kentucky's licenses and you feel like an illegal while trying to argue your case. I don't think this is a Bevin issue as much as Steve Beshear not improving the license in the many years that he was running Kentucky.
And yet they take Canadian provincial driver's licenses or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada cards, with their less stringent requirements. I have an issue with that.
Kentucky has 120 counties, the requirements will mean either centralizing driver's licenses bureaus to serve multiple counties, making them far more inconvenient for people to get one. Or it might mean hiring a bunch of new people to create totally separate departments within each county. For some of our smaller counties, where the county clerk already has barely enough work to justify having a paid spot, this will be an unnecessary burdensome cost. The other option is going to route of a couple of states that have a limited number of "enhanced drivers' license" facilities, in addition to regular ones, for those who think they may one day need to fly or visit a secured federal location.

The Government already knows more about me than they need to know (not that I have anything to hide) so, if you're going to travel just get a pass port. It's a drivers license, it works very well for it's intended purpose. Why should I have to pay for someone else's ID to board an airplane?
It sounds like a bill will pass this session. What you would get is not a new license but a travel card for now. I think my wife and I will be getting a passport just to be sure.
