Hello everyone,

Just wondering, why have property taxes gone up so high over the last year. I was looking for a good place to retire and stopped when I noticed the huge jump in property taxes in Owensboro. On one home I looked at the property tax was $906 in 2015 and went up to over $2000 in 2016.

Would appreciate your information.

Thanks!

Property tax and taxes on insurance are two ways the city of Owensboro is trying to financed a downtown expansion and work its way out of debt. Taxpayers haven't been happy about financing either, but the new downtown expansion has caused a growth in downtown commerce. Compared to some older towns where the city center is crumbling, Owensboro's downtown is solidly growing, and it is quite impressive to see.
