Hello All,

The City-Data Thread usually seems to always come through for me with the little nuggets that help the moves to go a bit smoother. We may be looking at a move to the Northern KY region either late summer/early fall. I think rather than starting off with the usually, "what can you tell me" questions, I instead want to present the living situation we've often gravitated towards and then hopefully you will be able to help tailor your responses to that.

My wife and I have three kids, 8, 6, and 3. I am from Buffalo, NY and she is from Phoenix, AZ. We met and married in AZ. I've lived in NY, NC, SC, GA and AZ. We lived 10 years in AZ and now currently reside in northern VA and I work in DC.

In AZ, we lived in a master planned community in a town of about 30,000 people in a suburb of Tucson and previously in the southwest border area of Sierra Vista, again a town of about 30,000 people.

In Northern VA, we ended up in another master planned community in a smaller suburb of Manassas/Gainesville, VA which is roughly 30,000 people.

So right out the gate, it seems Florence, KY fits the bill with about a population near 30,000. Please tell me about Florence and and any other area that has something like Master Planned communities, community pool, close to amenities, etc?

My oldest will start 3rd, my middle K and our youngest will start a pre-school all our kids went too that normally has quite the waitlist in Northern VA. So we're not opposed to tuition for quality pre-k education. Anything like that around in No KY that is highly recommended?

My oldest is competitive gymnastics and we travel for that. Anyone have any insight on Gymnastics gyms in the Northern KY area? That could also drive where we live.

I'll be working near Fort Mitchell. How is the area out that way? What are good areas to live that keep the commute to 30 minutes or so? (For the record I often commute 2 hours each way in the DC area, so I'm looking forward to that slowing down immensely.)

Our current home is about 3500 sq ft, three levels (finished walk out basement) so I'm interested in similar set up. Our neighborhood has a plethora of kids, so we'd be looking for family friendly neighborhoods with lots of kids.

Lastly for now, you can find lots of older, historic eclectic areas all over Northern VA, such as old town Alexandria, Old Town Manassas, Old Town Leesburg, etc. Seems like Ft. Thomas is quite historic. Are there any areas in Northern Ky, with coffee shops and bakeries and walk around shopping and the like? Or are we just in for the strip mall/mall experience? (That was kind of the Arizona style honestly)

Basically I've never been to Northern KY, it was not initially on our radar as an option. I don't think I'm moving to a foreign country or anything, so I realize my questions probably have obvious answers, but the above are some of the day to day for us, and so some insider help from you all would be helpful. Thanks!!
