I'm not so sure the Republicans are going to stonewall Bevin in Frankfort- they've sounded very accommodating in their post-election public comments, but that could of course be in reaction to Bevin and not wanting to get tarred with the Bevin brush.

Time will tell. As will the voters.

An acquaintance of mine who works in Frankfort in a non-partisan government position said several months ago that trying to work with Bevin was like playing Whack-a-Mole. I am sure my friend is relieved at the result of the election, and the prospect of having a more rational governor in place shortly.

He finally conceded.

High time. Wonder how much Bevin's recalcitrance cost Kentucky taxpayers? Only to confirm that the election returns were valid as originally reported, with the only error being a mistaken write-in that was neither of the main candidates! ONE vote!

It was rather surprising - pleasantly so - that Bevin managed to be courteous in his concession, and offered to assist Beshear during the transition (which is already underway - Beshear takes office on December 10).

But from what I read, he never contacted Beshear to concede in person. Just the speech.

So, can we give Governor Bevin credit for anything? Credit now, we all know what to blame him for....or was this a one issue campaign?

When Bevin first announced he was running for governor in 2015, I was happy to learn that he was an adoptive parent and hoped to reform Kentucky's unwieldy foster care and adoption system. But once in office, Bevin's ridiculously short temper and knack for insulting others while shooting himself in the foot were quick turn-offs.

Teachers, other public employees, and effective healthcare don't make very good targets. Goodness knows, Kentucky has enough valid targets sorely in need of gubernatorial attention - but those ain't them.

In addition, Bevin was widely viewed as insincere in his dedication to Kentucky, which he was seen as using cynically as a stepping stone to national office.

Bevin was his own worst enemy.

I had to think 3 or 4 days to think of something to give him credit for before thinking of one thing. He did work on the programs to get rid of the Asian Carp in Kentucky and Barkley Lakes. They were about to take over the lakes.

This is shocking the carp below Barkley Dam.

As indicated in the last election....what we call around here as "cutting your nose off to spite your face".
