I got a job offer in Ashland and really don't want a 45 minute commute everyday from Portsmouth. The biggest problem is that I start very early in the morning. I mean early, early. Adding a 45 drive would mean I have to get up about 3-3:30 am.

I'm looking in Ashland for apartments, but see there are towns in the area as well. Can someone tell me some communities in the area where the rent isn't quite so high as Ashland, but a reasonable distance to drive? Thanks.

Default Boyd/Greenup Counties/Ashland

Perhaps you could stop in the Ashland Tourism Office at 1509 Winchester Avenue and pick up one of the large maps that covers both Boyd and Greenup Counties. Tell the people there what you are looking for and see if they can offer any suggestions. They might even have a housing directory.

You might also ask for a copy of THE 2019 ANSWER BOOK.........informational directory of the Ashland area.

One thing that you might want to keep in mind is that if you move to Kentucky YOU MIGHT have to pay more state income tax than you would if you live in Ohio. Kentucky now has a flat 5% state income tax.

You could move to Lawrence County, Ohio, and just be a hop over the river from Ashland.
