Hello,

I am looking to move to Kentucky with my college age kids, leaving the oppressive insanity of CA. I just can't take it anymore and New California State can't happen fast enough. I was looking at London, KY and would like to know what the employment is like there. I do accounting/bookkeeping. I will be leaving my current job in six months and hope to secure something within this time frame so I can find a new place and move.

I am interested in a small town environment with nearby community college and possible opportunities for trade school for my son.

I am also interested to know if any counties are heavily restricting with mandates. A lot of states have removed the mask mandates.

Thank you!

With all the new and existing businesses in Laurel County, I see no reason you for you to have a problem finding an accounting/bookkeeping job. In fact, businesses of all kinds are begging for people willing to work.

As for the mask mandate, it's not an issue. The indicators show good numbers relating to Covid with a small positivity rate of around 3%. Kentucky has a Governor using the same playbook as Cali's Newsom but, unlike Cali, his popularity is waning quickly.

Good luck and welcome to Kentucky.

While there are many reasons to ditch California, your angst against your governor seems misguided to me. He’s acting in the best interest of public health as is Gov Andy. This situation is temporary and will pass if 80% of the people just take the shot. It’s that simple at this point.

I’m originally from KY and have a lot of family still there so I feel I can say this without prejudice when I say you’re going to probably be frustrated with the lack of educated folks there. A lot of people brain washed by the alt right. If that’s your thing then go for it.

Just to set the record straight there are many of us wanting to leave CA and it's not about being brain washed by the alt right. The gov of CA is in the process of being recalled. There are already enough signatures gathered and the issue will be on the ballot soon enough. The last straw after closing down restaurants to even outdoor dining was him being seen eating indoors at a very high end restaurant and having a jolly old time while small business owners were going belly up because of the Covid policies he put into place.
I began my quest in earnest to retire to KY about 6 years ago so it has nothing to do with the governor nor Covid. I am fairly well educated, not alt right but do lean right, not an Evangelical Christian. I don't judge people by their education, nor their religion. Some of the kindest most giving people I've known in my life weren't well educated and would be considered low income and I would be proud to have any of them as my neighbors.
I purchased a very modest old house in Mason County in the downtown area of a fairly smallish town. I could have afforded a larger newer house but that's not what I wanted. I've found most people to be genuine, kind and helpful and very proud of where they come from, much more so than at any time I've lived in CA.

Now...Now, let's not confuse education and intelligence.

Oh, by the way, little andy had a great day at the Derby!

I’m originally from KY but now consider myself woke and superior, so I feel I can say this without prejudice when I say you’re going to probably be frustrated with the lack of santimonious liberal folks there. A lot of people are conservative and that triggers my liberal ass greatly. If that’s your thing then go for it.

Fixed it for you....................

Ha ha. If anything I consider myself traditional conservative. More Bush or Reagan than Orange Head. Certain people who call themselves conservative should be ashamed of themselves.

But I’m not afraid to vote for the right person for the job. I hate the liberal leanings of the mayor of San Antonio but I just voted him back in because the knuckleheads running against him were stupid and inexperienced. The way that he successfully worked with the Republican judge of the county was the right balance on how to keep San Antonio unaffected by virus surges despite the lunacy headline grabbing opportunities of the Gov of Texas. And yes the mayor of San Antonio closed all restaurants and bars for indoor dining initially for about 3 months. And he also managed to save lives doing so.

I’d love to move back to Ky but I can no longer stand the weather except for a couple months out of the year. Every time I visit family there I love it for a couple weeks, but I soon tire of the other elements there. My family has a long history of being in Ky from the late 1700s. So as Happy Chandler says. All Kyians who move away always long to come back.

Sounds like the OP has the right mind set. Most folks I’ve met who have relocated from CA make the mistake of taking CA values where they go. I was just trying to warn the OP that path would be met with frustration.
