Living in Idaho right now, am ready to make a change. Getting to built up and farmland etc. is slowly changing. We have horses no children (all grown) love the country and away from city life. Love our animals and fresh air and nice people. Any suggestions where to start looking in KY? Would love to hear from anyone. Thanks for your help! Would like to stay in large acreage but not a fancy house.
You'll get swamped quick with replies for Louisville and further east. Come and check out western Kentucky. That is western Kentucky, anywhere west of a Bowling Green to Owensboro line. Lots of small rural towns. You can usually find a trail ride going somewhere in the area. If you get around the Land Between the Lakes, there is Wranglers camp, with 70 miles of trail riding available. (Land Between The Lakes | HOME click on "skip movie", then recreation and horseback riding). To check out any land available and how prices are going, get a map and find an area you want to check on. Find the county and locate the county extension agent. He might have some info or know who would on what you're looking for.
Sure, I know you can probably find some of what you're looking for just about anywhere in the state, but I'm a little partial to the western part of the state.
No matter where you look in Kentucky you'll find friendly people and a lot of horse lovers to trail ride with!

Where in Idaho are you? I have family in Boise and Mt Home. (My uncle and aunt moved there in the 70's and have since married and had children)

Land for "breathin' room" and the animals...laid-back lifestyle...away from urban sprawl. I would look more than 40 minutes away from Louisville, Lexington, and Northern Kentucky if you want to avoid encroaching urban sprawl or a "true country lifestyle."
You can find cheap land, cheap utilities, cheap property taxes, cheap everything in rural Kentucky. What I'm talking about is mostly west of I-65, east of I-75, as well as in between the two interstates but south of the Bluegrass Parkway.
It just dawned on me how that sounds..... No they did not marry each other....
