I saw that too. I think this is the first time gas is below $100 a barrel in something like 6 months. Also read that Ike didn't do as much damage to oil platforms and refineries in the Gulf Coast areas as orginally predicted and that quite a few are up and running today. Its beyond me why we aren't seeing this reflected at the pump.

I suppose I can't complain too much though because we haven't seen any pricing spikes yet up here. Its been averaging around $4.19 here in Fairbanks for a little over a week now. The Fam in Ky said that prices in their area were average of $3.95 as of Saturday.

Default price per barrel

Since the price per barrel is less than $100, does anyone remember what the going rate was 6 months ago for a gallon of gas? That would have been mid-March.

Prices in south Texas (with lots of affected refugees) is holding steady at pre and post Ike prices of $3.50 a gallon.

I have repeated this numerous times, but oil is traded a MONTH ahead. That $97/bbl is for October.

Commodities - Latest Trading Prices and Data from CNNMoney.com

Now as far gasoline, yeah...there is some jacked up prices. Stop making runs on the gas station (for nothing) and maybe they will pull the price back down. Oh, and the unleaded gasoline price closed today at $2.56/gallon. That is wholesale and for the month of October.

FYI, if you have propane for your heating, fill your tank now. I paid $3.049/gallon today and the guy at Suburban Propane said it is going to go up "fairly quickly", even by the end of the week. If it's a cold winter, you can bet well over $4/gallon will be had. Sad, but true.

Well so much for gas in Lexington jumping to $4.69 like it was supposed to... It only got to $3.89 in most places.
