Smile Fireants/Weather

I live in Western Kentucky. There are no established fireant populations in Kentucky. But, I've heard of very isolated colonies in the western part of the state that get discovered and quickly exterminated.

But, the real range of fire ants is as close as southern Tennessee. I don't see fireants being a problem in Kentucky for many years, if ever. If they were ever established, I would only imagine it would be in the southern and western areas of the state where the winters are a little milder.

In other words, I have no problems walking around barefoot in my backyard!

As far as weather, the cool part of the year is November-March, with December-February carrying the only real potential for very cold temps. or snowfall. The avg. snowfall where I live is about 10 inches per year but some year's, there is hardly any. When it gets bitterly cold, usually doesn't last for more than a few days before it "breaks".

Summer in Kentucky can be very hot and humid, especailly from June-August. The average high usually peak out around 90 degrees. But, if you want 4 seasons, we've got them here, without any being too extreme.

Hope this helps,

Dane
