I thought we were focused on Elizabethtown, but as I research more Shelbyville looks very interesting to me. We are going to visit Elizabethtown mid March. Would it be worth our time to drive to Shelbyville also? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely!!! Shelbyville is a great 'little' town - complete with a state-of-the-art hospital (a branch of Jewish Hospital in Louisville) - full of great little places to eat, shops, and beautiful countryside.

You get the best of both worlds - actually - as the drive to Louisville is not bad (about the same as from Elizabethtown), if you need to do major shopping, need more job ops, specilialty doctors, etc. - and the small town feel with the country just seconds away. (Pretty much like Elizabethtown - just in the other direction)

I would definetly put it on my 'visit' list. And - you may find property a little cheaper in that area - depending on what you are lookling for.

Glad to have you! And you picked a great time to visit.

Default Thanks

Thanks, you've been helpful again! Think we're focused on Shepardsville as well so we will roam around all three areas. Report back on our return!!

Shepherdsville is located in Bullitt County - and only about 15 minutes from where I am. It's the county seat, and is growing.

The wonderful thing to me about Bullitt county is the fact that I-65 runs straight through it, which makes traveling very easy.

Have a great visit.

Hate to disappoint you but the OP's thread is nearly 2 yrs old and never replied.

But i'll offer my observations on my thread when i visited last Sept.

As for Elizabethtown vs. Shelbyville, Shelbyville has a noticeable illegal immigration problem. For a lot of DC area BRACcies who currently live in areas where that is a major issue (like me for example), that knocks Elizabethtown to the front of the line.

I'd choose Elizabethtown. Better than Shelbyville on all fronts--except for the proximity, b/c Shelbyville is closer to Louisville but E'town is still just 40 min. out.

Shelbyville is closer to one side of Louisville, E-town is closer to the other Depends on which part you're talking about.

That's a good point, but this really gets tricky. Shelbyville is closer to Jtown, Middletown, St Matthews, and Prospect, where most the good shopping is, so Id say Shelbyville is a better location from this standpoint.

Etown does have its own small retail scene, but the south suburbs of Louisville are relatively lacking in shopping.
