Beautiful scenes, but I hate all of the damage and inconvenience the ice has caused all of you in that area. Its sad to see all of the trees damaged and thinking of all of the people without power tonight and freezing. We had an ice storm like that back in 2004 or 2005. I cant remember.

We didnt get anything here in northeast Tennessee with this last weather system except alot of rain and wind! It was 64° at my house at 7am this morning with the sun coming up over the mountain, but by 1pm, it was raining and falling down into the 50s.

Hope everything gets back good soon!

Here are a few scenes from around my place last week. I lost my phone / DSL for two days but the power stayed on thank god. I'm in south Central KY and was right on the snow/ice/rain -- rain line. We got about 5 Inches of rain on Tuesday. These were taken at 8AM on Tuesday 1/27/09 before most of those 5 inches... it just got worse after this.

This is one of the busiest highways in my county, it looked like a narrow 1 lane road.

A bunch of trees were bent over or broken from the weight of the ice.

These small branches don't look like they could tare that guard rail off the porch, but they were covered with ice and weighed a lot more than normal.

These power lines actually held up, but most all of them in the county broke off the poles. I should have took a picture, but he has a old antenna tower on the hill to the left and it was bent over from the ice.

We barely made it under this.

Gosh, this is so horrible. In 2007 I drove through the Ozarks and a few other areas of MO that were hit with an ice storm that year. It was spring, and while all the trees in OK were buzzing with green buds, there were so many trees in MO that were dead or fallen because of the ice storm. I was expecting a sea of green and instead found a land full of those scary trees you see in the Wizard of Oz. Just terrible. I'm praying for you guys.

Here's some pictures of the Trace and other areas in the LBL. Only road that is not closed to the public in the LBL right now is the Trace, the highway running north and south through the center of the LBL.
These were taken by a friend of ours and a park ranger. These are off his flickr page.
