Despite heavy damage, Obama has elected not to give federal aid to Louisville/Jefferson, Oldham, Bullitt, and other metro area counties. This sounds a bit fishy to me, and could possibly fuel Louisvillians contempt for the rest of the state. This is a terrible tragedy, but it appears Louisville was just as hard hit, if not more so, than anywhere in the state. They have estimated over 200,000 homes and businesses without power in Louisville still (likely afecting a half a million people in the city) and the local utilty states 8500 downed lines just in the city. I wish all Kentuckians the best of luck in this hard time, and stay safe and be warm! Any thoughts on leaving Louisville metro counties out (with the exception of Shelby)?

That's really weird! I can't imagine why Jefferson would have been left out. Did Gov. Beshear ask that it be included?
btw-don't hold the rest of the state accountable for government inaction!

I am sure the President went off of the recommendation made by the governors of each state since they should know their state's needs. It is rather odd.

I don't know... maybe Louisville's utilities people made a better-sounding report, for what they expected to be able to accomplish, in terms of getting things back up and going again?

That's the only thing that would make any sense.

What I don't get is that on that list, Henderson Co, as well as McLean Co are both excluded; and McLean is as bad and Hopkins, and those other counties listed are surrounding Henderson, and some didn't get it as bad.

That's very strange.

Yes, henderson county should have been on there too! The list seems to heavily favor the Lexington-Bluegrass region (which didnt seem as hard hit as Louisville, southern, and western KY), or the area closest to Frankfort. Once again, I dont know anything about this stuff really, but its still seems odd!

Stay warm all and heres hoping we dont get another round this week. (check the thread by censusdata)

I guess that's what you call bipartisanship - only give aide to areas that didn't vote for you

That makes a lot of sense to me. The federal govt has to be taken the info and recommendations from the state govt.
