Since western Kentucky is a possible place on my list of transfers, I was just wondering which pro sports teams do the people there support the most. I know Kentucky does not have any pro teams of its own, and is a big college sports state. The state is centered between several places that do have pro teams like Indianapolis, Memphis, Nashville, St Louis, and Cincinnati. And of course, each place does not have teams for all sports. So what teams can I expect to see and hear people talk about?

Default generalizations...there are exceptions, natually

Baseball: Cardinals West of Green River Prkwy, Reds to the East. Also good number of Cubs fans as most cable systems have carried WGN for years.

Basketball: Only nearby teams are Memphis and Indianapolis, but no easy highway to Indy from Western Kentucky, and Grizzlies haven't been in Memphis long enough to build up serious regional fan base. Some Pacers fans, but most pro allegiance is based on where regional college favorites ended up. (Example: Pistons with Tayshaun Prince.)

Celtics have longstanding ties to Univ. of Kentucky & Univ. of Louisville, most recently w/ Rondo, McCarty, Antoine Walker, Pitino, Pervis Ellison, etc.

of course, trendy teams such as Bulls and Lakers have many fans everywhere

Football: Colts are well-established, and Titans are becoming so the southern areas of Kentucky. From Louisville TV area east, it's Bengals territory Denver has a following due to Jay Cutler, from nearby Santa Claus, IN, and Vanderbilt. Da Bears and Packers also have a significant following.

Paducah area: Cardinals in baseball. NFL very fragmented- Titans, Rams, Cowboys, Packers, Bears, Chiefs. Very little interest in the NBA or NHL.

The Titans and Da Bears in football ... don't really care about baseball or basketball.

You are right about the NBA, but wrong about the NHL. There are many, many Preds season ticket holders in the Jackson Purchase. Probably even more in the Pennyrile area. We are not season ticket holders, but attend a few games every year.

Because we don't have any cities that are big enough. Same problem South Carolina & Alabama have (both are nearly identical to us in population)

Louisville is around the same size metro as Memphis, larger than the Oklahoma City metro, Buffalo metro, Salt Lake City metro, New Orleans metro, all of which have a pro sports team.
