That's a very attractive salary no doubt. If he gets the job I hope he's prepared for the pressure he's going to be under, coaching at UK will be a little tougher than Memphis.
He has coached in the NBA which is similar in the pressure department. I am sure it is a pressure packed job and now more than ever. Lots of money always means lots of crap to go with it.
I agree Calipari has a good record at UMass and Memphis for wins, but the kicker is... I don't think he has been under the pressure at either of these schools that he will be under at UK.
I sent Cutler a nice email and a link to the video and told him just how ignorant and pathetic he is, he can watch the video and see for himself if he don't believe me...lol... I'll understand if I don't get a reply back..lol...
Cal will be a great coach at UK....I just wish he wasn't leaving Memphis
He seems to thrive on pressure...and he'll personally be a great asset to your community - he certainly has to our's.
Just look at the past 4 years. 4 consecutive 30+ win seasons, 4 consecutive conference championships, tied for the most consecutive conference wins (62, I believe...and still counting), 4 consecutive NCAA trips (1 sweet 16, 2 elite 8, 1 championship game....which was lost in OT). Sure we're in a weak conference....but 60+ consecutive wins is pretty amazing in any conference! And we did have to beat some pretty strong teams to advance as far as we did in the NCAA each year.
So....assuming it's much easier to recruit top talent to play at UK instead of Memphis, I think you guys are going to be very happy in the years to come....
A lot of green too, UK dug deep in their pockets... highest paid coach in UK history.
It will make him the highest paid coach in college basketball history.
John Calipari to leave Memphis to coach Kentucky's men's basketball program (http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/42219677.html?elr=KArksLckD8EQDUoaEyqyP4OW3ckUiD 3aPc:_Yyc:aUnciaec8O7EyUsl - broken link)

He got the job, here's a article I was just reading.
Convinced that Gillispie was the problem, and that the sociology of Kentucky basketball is perfectly sane, university president Lee Todd is holding Calipari to even higher standards. "You have to be an ambassador to this program,'' he said.
