Moving to Johnson City. Would like to know any helpful information from someone who lives in the Johnson City area;
best neighborhoods with children, home pricing - most affordable areas, best schools, areas to avoid, crime areas, job availability.

Who lives in the Johnson City area- I do.

Best neighborhoods with children- Define best. My best would be the north end or near Gray but that might not be affordable for you. I'd say that Johnson City as a whole is better than most. Piney Flats is nice too.

Home pricing- Pretty cheap. A few of our customers offer 3/2/2 houses for the mid $180's with a decent size lot.

Most affordable areas- Outskirt cities. Specifically Elizabethton, Jonesborough, Unicoi, etc.

Best schools- Erwin, Science Hill, most in city limits within Johnson City. Try to avoid county schools.

Areas to avoid- Anything in Florida.

Crime areas- Hmmmm, not enough to really quote statistics on.

Job availability- Good. When I moved here three months ago I went on three interviews and had three offers. You won't find a $90K job around every corner but anyone with a decent brain and desire to work can easily make $55 to $60K per year in this area.

All in all, it's a great pace to live. I just wish I had moved here sooner.

Joe

Default Hi Joe

I also live here, Gray to be exact. Can I ask why you think City schools are better? Personaly I think Gray Elelmentary is the BEST! As far as high schools go Daniel Boone and Davy Crocket are MUCH better than Science Hill, for both size, student teacher ratios, graduation rates, extra activities, MUCH less crime/drug issues. And they were both rated better than science hill on the state report card....actually last year Science Hill didn't submit info to be graded. (might have been year before)
I also LOVE east TN, and my children love the schools systems in the county.
Very courious why some people like city schools better, would love you input.
Thank you!
