We are moving to Jonesborough around mid-July and are very happy to have found a nice house and school for our daughter to attend. Now, we would like some of your valuable input on a few more things in the area. Are there any good health clubs in the area for families? What about preschools or Mother's Day Out programs for 3 year olds? Are there any nice parks around the lakes in the area? What are your favorite family activities or places to spend time in the area? I look forward to hearing your suggestions!

TNforME,

Check out the free library activities for three-year-olds. I know the JC public library has an active program. Not sure about Jonesborough.

Of course, Wetlands water park in Jonesborough comes to mind immediately. There is a free Music on the Square each Friday night in Jonesborough. Johnson City has a Thursday night free family movie showing at Winged Deer Park and a concert series, also.

Many churches advertise very reasonable Mothers Day Out programs. Central Baptist Church in JC has a good drop off program. (And it's across the street from the JC Public Library.) Sorry I can't tell you about Jonesborough.

Default parks...

The two most popular parks in the area are both in Kingsport but just a short (30-35 min.) drive from Jonesborough. Warriors' Path State Park has a new playground that's pretty incredible:

At over 3500 acres, Bays Mountain Park is one of the largest city parks in America & is a great place to stroll/picnic/explore/play with a young'n:

In Johnson City, Winged Deer Park is very nice. Here's a list of JC's parks & other recreational facilities:

I will definitely check out the library programs and all of the parks that have been suggested. Thanks for the great links! We drove by Wetlands to check it out, but it was hard to see much from the car. I'm sure the kids will love it though. What about the Hands On Museum in JC? Is this a fun place for little ones?

Also, if anyone can recommend a good Primary Care Doctor for my husband and I and/or a Pediatrician in the JC area, we would greatly appreciate it!

Default The Hands On Museum...

is (from what I've heard) a lot of fun for youngsters, especially those of pre- and grade-school age. List of their exhibits here:

A local museum I'm particularly excited about is the one at the Gray fossil site, which is slated to open in another month or two:
