Wow! Thanks for that! I have been reading the Kingsport Times online and it seemed to me that there were quite a few serious crimes for such small towns. Now it seems I was right!

Default Thanks.

I had been looking for these maps.

I would say that most of the crime around here is people who know one another and family or drug related disputes? At least that's what I tell myself.

I agree that most crimes are A) crimes of opportunity (unlocked cars, stuff left in the yard, etc) B) crimes where the perp know the victim. Random acts of violence are very low. Drug use *seems* high, but gang violence is almost non-existent.

It's all totally a clan mentality. Stay in the city, stay in the good parts of the city (95% of the city), and stay away from people who are obvious meth-heads and crackwhores.

This is one of those areas that is sort of the opposite of most of the rest of America. Stay in the city, if you're "not from 'round here." Our inner-city major crime is almost nonexistent, though if you look at a crime map, you will see more petty crime reported in the city. A side effect of more people smooshed together, but it really is safer than in lots of rural locales.

At least that's my opinion, having been raised in rural east TN. Some folks may feel different!
