Folks - let's not talk balance sheets here. I hope and pray that ALL stores in Kingsport do well.

The original post was on the appearance of the mall.

Speaking of "the appearance" of the mall on Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport- as of yesterday it still says "Fort Henry Mall" in big, red illuminated letters above the main entrance. There is a 2-3 year old 4x8 plywood sign on the side of Fort Henry Drive that says "Kingsport Town Center" with some leasing information. This seems to send some sort of message about commitment on the part of the new owners.

The Pavilion has significantly drawn business away from Ft Henry Mall/Kingsport Town Center, period. It was a bad, bad idea for the Pavilion to open, and poor planning on behalf of the city of Kport. The Pavilion only encourages traffic, is on the outskirts of town, encourages sprawl, is not "city friendly" and is really mid-1990s thought-process in terms of shopping center development.

What *should* have happened is for the stores in the Pavilion to locate in and around the kport town center/ft henry mall. Or, they should have built in and around downtown Kport to encourage infill and city density development.

Sad to see Kingsport build a strip mall on stone drive on the outskirts of town. Just really short-sighted development--and in 15-20 years, the Pavilion will be a ghost town too when the new "center" opens somewhere else around town. Terrible!
