Well I just made my first trip to Erwin, and most of the surrounding areas. I spent 4 days looking at houses for sale and property, in Erwin, Unicoi, and Jonesborough and a couple others. And sightseeing too :-)

I have to say the area is awesome! Jonesborough is my fav I do believe. Hwy 81 runs from Erwin thru Jonesborough, rolling hills of hay, a few horse and cattle farms too. Everybody I met and spoke to was friendly and hospitable. There is a restaurant in downtown Erwin I took a few meals, the Choo Choo Cafe. Ya gotta eat here once for sure, such a unique place filled with lots of antiques and wonderful art, and Brenda is the proprietor and chef. Outstanding home cooked food and a quiet home style character. Brenda takes much joy in what she does, and she does it well. I already miss the place.

musicgrl.......I too had some reservations about hanging the elephant, and their descendants. But times change, it was long ago, and you have to meet and give people an opportunity. No where is perfect, and neither are we.

Beautiful country, friendly folks, great service where ever I went or ate. Its a whole different world from where I'm from. And it was somewhat of a bummer to come home.....a real culture shock. Oh and the library in Erwin is nice too, free internet access, and a relaxing couch to sit a read a magazine or two, sunshine beaming in.

Planning my next trip. Hopefully my house down here will sell soon, its on the market priced aggressively. I hope my input here is valuable to someone.

That's great! Were you here for the Apple Festival and Jonesborough Days? So I am a little unclear, are you going to settle in Erwin or Jonesborough? Good luck on selling your home soon!

Thx Beretta. I left abruptly late Thursday afternoon before both festivals started. When I saw the news about Hurricane Karen, I decided to come home as it was forecast to hit my area, like Isaac. But I saw some of the fest prep in Jonesborough before I hit the road. I wanted to stay a couple more days min but I just couldn't put Karen out of my mind. Thankfully Karen disintegrated in the gulf :-)
I had a foot of water in my house for 24 hours from Isaac. It had never flooded like that in my little town, that anyone can remember. Nothing nice believe me.

I enjoyed reading through this thread. Just wondering if any of you actually moved to TN and, if so, how it’s going?
