Hi, I am a moving out on my own (yikes) in a few weeks and I need some advice. It'll be my and my 11 month old daughter. I am searching for a place within walking distance to the bus terminal, as I do not own a car. I also need something relatively inexpensive, as I am a single mom. However, I can't get government housing because I (barely) make too much money. Does anyone know of a place?

Also, how much is cable and phone? I am trying to figure out if I can afford it.

Thanks!

I don't know why anyone has not responded to your post! I have had the same happen to me a couple times. Guess it just gets lost with so many people posting here. I grew up in Kingsport, but now live in CT. I am not that familiar with current JC housing downtown, although I would recommend looking on Craigslist.org rentals section to see if anything comes up. Good luck!

You are right, I totally missed this post! Sorry about that.
I will be honest mommykat17, even Downtown JC is not a "metro" area. There are busses but they don't go very far out of JC and they don't run all the time like in most cities and if I am not mistaken, they don't run on Sundays.
Here are two sites that should give you a good idea of the public transportation here:
Johnson City Transit System
City of Johnson City, Tennessee
Be careful when looking for a place to live, some of the areas downtown are not that great for a single woman and a baby.
