Does anyone know which hospitals have a good cardiac unit in the TC area?
Or is there a cardiologist or group that is excellent?

We are considering moving there again, but my husband has a heart cond. He has to see his Drs down here at Emory & the idea of him having a surgery somewhere else if he ever has to have another one worries me some. Anyone who has recommendations or even if its negatives about a certain place we should steer clear of I would love to hear. I am going to try to see if I can find some statistics on such things for the area hospitals up there as well, but wanted to hear from you all as well.

Thanks!

Julie

In Kingsport we have Cardiovascular Associates...here is a link to their website. Cardiovascular Associates, PC - Tennessee
Hospitals in Kingsport, Johnson City and perhaps Bristol as well have well established programs for care, including heart surgery.

MB, my boyfriend has cardiomyopothy also. I was also worried about the area's facilities and I am glad to hear that JC has such a great heart hospital! I was worried some about the posts on the air pollution. My boyfriend, Eric, also gets bouts of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and I was worried about his breathing....I guess we will find out in June when we visit.

Good to know MB, thanks! I will be moving with three children to the area with congenital heart defects but have heard from others that this area would be a good choice do to the excellent medical facilities. It's just nice to hear someone has personal experience with such a specialty. My brother-in-law(only 35) and father-in-law both died of Cardio Myopothy very recently (the main reason for our move) and we now have to get my husband tested also. And as far as the air quality goes, I just got a newcomers guide that stated the air quality to be quiet good. I have heard that there may be a distinct "aroma" to the air from time to time but if it were that hazardous I don't think so many people would be flocking to it. Right? Well, just a thought anyway.

Many hospitals have websites now; in them you can find a lot of information about the practicing physicians, and sometimes see what their patients have to say about the care they provide and such.

Good luck on your searching and you may also wish to look into vitamins for your husband. I know of several that help with certain heart problems. If they might help keep him a bit healthier it may be worth looking into.
