I was just wondering about the area since my husband is from here. I was in Johnson City once, but for only a few days & my husband went to visit a friend in a...well not so nice area. I'm from NYC so back then I was a closeted NASCAR fan,so going to Bristol was Great!!! Now it's all cool, people up here are starting to get into it. I have 7 kids & 1 grandaughter, 5 are grown and I just have my 7&8 yr. old still home. I'm so close to my family, but Staten Island, NY isn't that far. I figure my biggest problem (besides my husband finding a job) is that I'm Irish Catholic and with all the Beautiful Churches in the area I really doubt any of them are Catholic. I'm a retired Court Officer who was injured on the job. If you don't know what a Court Officer is, if you have seen Law & Order on T.V, we're the ones in the courtroom holding up the wall in our uniform. So my income is fine since I retired early and get SSD. It's too expensive up here & I thought the mountains were beautiful and we did drive through some beautiful neighborhoods.

Welcome, Maggie! Just wanted to let you know that each of the Tri-Cities has a Catholic church:
Johnson City - Saint Mary's Parish
Kingsport - St. Dominic Parish

Even tiny little Mountain City (population about 2000) has one--
St Anthony of Padua Parish

Greeneville, Elizabethton, Rogersville and Sneedville also have parishes.

Actually, here's a list of all of them in east TN

Maggie, I just early-retired here from Central NJ. Absolutely love it. I am not a big fan of city amenities so I adjusted to here quite easily.
