We are relocating in the fall to the Johnson City/Kingsport area due to my husband's job promotion. I have no trouble researching various areas in regards to school systems, but can not find much information on the local recreation leagues. Both my boys (8 and 10) play basketball and baseball with the younger one playing All-Star baseball this summer. Can anyone provide any input on what areas have good rec leagues for these sports or leagues they would not recommend? Does Jonesborough have their own youth association? Or Gray? I have not been able to find much information elsewhere on the internet. Thank you for your help!

Welcome to Johnson City. Sports are very big in this area. Many of the larger churches have "Upward Bound" programs for both boys and girls.Crossroads Christian, Boones Creek Christian Church and Tri-City Baptist to mention a few. Gray and Jonesborough both do have their own leagues. The schools should have a contact list . In Johnson City, The Parks and Rec have a league as well as Boys-Girls Club. Both are good. My husband used to coach "Babe Ruth" with Parks and Rec. Good luck.

Another option is to play for a travel team. Most travel teams in this area don’t travel very far. Their games are usually played in the Tri-Cities or Knoxville area. Just something to consider if you are looking for better competition.

There are leagues around to be certain. I played at Avoca Babe Ruth and Travel baseball in Bristol as a teen. Now it seems like most of the good options for AAU basketball and Travel baseball are tied in very closely with school ball. For this reason I strongly suggest that you call the coach at whatever school district you end up in and ask him for a contact for the most competitive leagues available.
