Sunday was a great day to get out & explore, so I took a friend and headed over to South Holston Lake. We enjoyed a wonderful picnic at Osceola Island Recreation Area below the dam, then took a scenic walk around the island. Upon leaving the lake we took Denton Valley Rd./Big Creek Road through the mountains & somehow ended up in Elizabethton,
The foliage was mostly drab around the dam but as we got closer to Holston Mountain, thing took on a much brighter hue:

And yes, that was Sumac that is red, but it is not the poisonous sumac (well, unless you eat it) that you hear of, it is a sumac weed that will turn into a tree. They are a pain in the butt to keep under control if you get them in your yard.

And yes, that was Sumac that is red, but it is not the poisonous sumac (well, unless you eat it) that you hear of, it is a sumac weed that will turn into a tree. They are a pain in the butt to keep under control if you get them in your yard.
