Sunday was a great day to get out & explore, so I took a friend and headed over to South Holston Lake. We enjoyed a wonderful picnic at Osceola Island Recreation Area below the dam, then took a scenic walk around the island. Upon leaving the lake we took Denton Valley Rd./Big Creek Road through the mountains & somehow ended up in Elizabethton,

The foliage was mostly drab around the dam but as we got closer to Holston Mountain, thing took on a much brighter hue:

Great pics as usual. And yes, that was Sumac that is red, but it is not the poisonous sumac (well, unless you eat it) that you hear of, it is a sumac weed that will turn into a tree. They are a pain in the butt to keep under control if you get them in your yard.
