Hello, Anyone out there who is active in lineage societies in the Tri-Cities Area? I've been able to look up on-line and found that there are several DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Chapters in the area but a lot of the other groups are not so well computerized that the web-sites show all the Chapters that might be around. In addition to DAR, does anyone know if there is a Mayflower Descendants group, Colonial Dames XVII Century, or Huguenot Chapter in the area? It looks like there is a Daughters of 1812 Chapter in Kingsport. Since my ancestors were from the Northeast, founders of this or that southern town or First Families of this or that southern colony wouldn't be of interest to me since I wouldn't qualify for membership. This of course is in the nature of research as we have not moved to the area yet. But it is looking more and more promising. Thanks for any info.

Wish I had a real answer for you but the best I can do is tell that the Bristol library has a nice genealogy room and it always seems to be full, so perhaps you could give them a call and they can find some contacts for you? A listing of local groups maybe.

I would recommend contacting the Washington County Historical Society in Jonesborough. I know the John Sevier Chapter of the DAR is active. Also ETSU Geneology Dept. may help. I know there is lots of interest in this area in ancestry. Good Luck.

Adding to that last post, you might wish to contact Sheila at the Sullivan County Historical and Genealogical Society. She seems to be well connected with what is going on in such organizations in this region.

Most of the early settlement in this area was from English-Scots-Irish-Welch stock that drifted in over the mountains from the Carolinas and down the Great Valley of Virginia. Hardly mentioned, however, is that a significant amount of German folk also moved in, mostly from earlier settlement in Pennsylvania. My family tree is full of German names though I carry an Irish surname.
