I moved to the area in mid March for my job, currently live in Gray. I am 24 (male), Only work with about 20 people and most are not around my age. What would you guys suggest for meeting new people my age besides church? I am not a very religious person and am open to any ideas. Don't have main hobbies but I have enjoyed hiking and outdoors stuff since I've been here, and I also like to shoot handguns, fish, hunt, or do anything outdoors. I also like working on cars, car shows, stuff like that.

Thanks, open to any suggestions.

Hi,

Here are some links to some things that might give you some ideas or point you in the right direction:

hiketennessee.net

Home This is the JC Hikers webpage.

Shooters Edge, LLC Indoor Range and Training Center | Home This is a great range! The guys there know everyone and can be a great resource.

also, make friends with the folks at Mahoney's Outfitters : Outdoor equipment, Rock Climbing, Backpacking, Hiking, Camping, and Paddling that's a great store to spend an afternoon!

This place is a fantastic place and a lot of bass tournaments and such are posted here. You can meet a lot of nice fishermen and boaters here:

Watson's Marine, Bluff City TN: East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia's Leading Bass Boat & Tackle Dealer - Ranger & Triton Boats

As far as cars, there is everything that you would want. Google or ask around for the specific type of car you are interested in. Or post here and we can help with that.

Hope this helps and good luck

If your wanting to find people with similar interest, then go do what you like and start striking up conversations with those around you.

Beretta laid out some good places for you. Most of the Fishermen I have met will easily talk up a storm. Same for the car guys. Since it is getting close to the time for it, start asking people about the Blue Plum Festival in Johnson City. Ask if they have been to it.. and slip in that you are new to the area but have heard of it.

It just boils down to starting the conversations and going from there.

Based on your interests, it sounds like you are in the right area. I've found that after college, it is hard to meet new people, and there can be a huge disconnect between singles (or even childless couples) and couples with kids. Even if you share the same interests, it can be very difficult. I ended up meeting people (finally) through a car club. This area is an absolute haven for auto enthusiasts, everything from 4x4's to muscle cars to tuners and everything in between.

You can google your particular interests, or maybe check a popular website that helps people "meet up."

Since you say that you like cars you might enjoy going to Elizabethton on a Saturday night. Every Saturday they close off the main street at 5:00 and there are all sorts of old cars parked down both sides of the road. You can stroll around and chat with fellow car lovers.
