I am considering a move to the Johnson City area. I would like to get a ballpark figure on the taxes for a $100k home and vehicle taxes.
Also, I would like some information on the weather there. I like a climate that clips the extremes and has moderate humidity.
Any information is appreciated, thanks,
Don

I moved here about 2.5 years ago and love it! Here is the info you requested:

Ballpark taxes on that price would be about 600.00 annual in county, and about 1000.00 annual in city max. Some areas are less. I live in city limits, 1600sf home, 142k home, 990 taxes combined city and county.

No annual vehicle taxes, but if purchasing, we have a 9.5% sales tax.

Climate: mid 80s high, high 60s low in summer. mid 40s high, mid 20s low in winter. Usual snowfall is about 10-15in annually, with little more than an inch or two max at a time, which usually melts within a day or two.

Hope that helps! It's beautiful here!

aclemons6970,
Thanks so much!
It sounds ideal and close to I 81.
Your post sounds as though you really enjoy the area.
Are the local people accepting of outsiders? I ask because I had the misfortune of moving to a small town in NC and found myself totally isolated. I thought the local folk didn't like northerners but then I found it was all outsiders. Local contractors would try to charge me 2x and 3x the going rate. The solution I found was to hire only contractors that had served in the USMC of which I am one. Still, it was a very unfriendly place to live. I soon left NC.

I do enjoy it here. I moved here from Miami, FL - so I might as well be a northerner. About half of the residents here are from other metropolitan areas so you will fit right in. Also, there is a large university here so that helps quell the isolation aspects as well.

I have friends that live in the outskirts of Elizabethton, which is very rural, and even the locals there are friendly to me and my non-southern accent.

North Carolinians are horrible. You'll love the friendly environment of Northeast Tennessee.
