My dad said theres a new Indian restaurant in downtown Johnson City. Can anyone tell me more about it? I cant find it online.
Was he at the Blue Plum Festival this weekend? Sahib has a banner out in front of the gym downtown; I think they are serving food inside during the festival. As far as I know they don't have plans to move downtown and there is no other Indian restaurant that I am aware of planning to locate their.

It's been awhile so here are some more updates:

Northeast State is open downtown and has nearly 300 students attending. There are three new retailers that will be opening in the coming months: Downtown Pet Depot, Overmountain Outdoors, and Fizz Soda Bar. All are specialty shops that should fit in great downtown. JRH Brewing Co. also plans to open next month on Walnut St. The farmers market pavilion should be finished next month and work on the former U-Haul site should begin in the spring turning it into a large, interactive gathering space. Joe Baker (who funded the Tupelo Honey and Yee-Haw restorations) has purchased the old Chevrolet dealership on the corner of Commerce St. and Wilson Ave. with plans to turn the upper floor into an event space with a regional restaurant chain purportedly interested in the first floor space. Finally, there are some pretty reliable sources saying that Mr. Baker will be purchasing the Model Mill and restoring it for use by ETSU among other entities. The downtown renaissance keeps rolling along...

The new Food City, the largest in the company's portfolio, is nearing completion at the corner in Sunset and SoF and the Fairfield Inn is taking shape at Hamilton Place. DSW is opening in the mall next week with White House Black Market coming most likely early next year. Now if we could only get a Costco and Trader Joe's....

I had also heard about White House Black Market. Do you have this from a good source? That would be a huge stepping stone for JC.

I know I've been a member for quite some time

I really do think JC will get a Trader Joe's in the next 5 years or so. We tend to be getting more higher-end stores and really anything is possible. I would have never imagined we'd get a Tupelo Honey or Fresh Market and looked what happened. With the success of Earth Fare and Fresh Market I think Trader Joe's would be a huge it. It would be great as the centerpiece of a rejuvenated W. Walnut......

Johnson City Press: Business booms downtown as five shops prepare to open

More great news out of downtown. Best of luck to these new businesses and look for more to come in the near future.
