Hello everyone. I was born in and grew up in Kingsport. Left about 1986 for Florida, left Florida in 1996 for Georgia, and am now in NC (making my way back!). To make a long story short, due to some miscommunications w/ my new manager - I didn't HAVE to move to NC. I can do my job basically anywhere. I thought I needed to be near a datacenter, and chose Charlotte. Sigh. I've only been here a couple of months, but I detest it. The area and climate is nice, the neighbors are not. Nice house, postage stamp yards - houses right on top of each other. I was under the gun and needed a "nice, safe" area. I rent, have never been able to save much money for a down payment or anything. The house in Georgia, I rented for 10 years with no issues whatsoever. This place, the neighbors griped because they could see my dog potty. Yes, just because they can "see" him do it. The other night he barked, I never let him bark long - I was out getting him inside in under 3 minutes (cross my heart) and the neighbor was out there screaming at him to "shut up". I have a lease but I am so disheartened & stressed out by these people that I'm about ready to break it. So there's my backstory..

My family is all still in the Kingsport area. I would LIKE to find a place, preferably somewhat rural, with a LARGE yard. I would like a nice house, but that really is secondary to the yard & location. An acre (or even a little more) would be nice, in an area where people don't flip out if the dog barks for 5 minutes. It's difficult for me to even look for a place - being in NC, and I work 6 days a week, so not so easy to pop over for a weekend. I am open to any area within about 30 minutes of Kingsport. Does anyone have any recommendations on locations? Are there home rentals like what I've described? I've found it virtually impossible to find any rentals online in the Kingsport area.

Thanks for any advice or ideas.

Hello,
Welcome to the forum, glad to have ya.
Check your DM. I know of one place that might fit your needs space and land wise but it is in Rogersville. Don't know if that is to far for you?
I have a dog too so I feel your frustration. That is just awful about your neighbors.

MB, our neighbors love Bosco. Just 105 lbs. of barking, frolicking, playful Lab, what's not to love? I've noticed a few homes for rent out our way. Probably some real estate person might help locate a good rental. Oh by the way, my old agent bought himself a condo right off 11E near the Jonesborough Flea Market.

Doesn't surprise me a bit....on all accounts LOL!
Bosco is a very good, lucky dog.

Yeah, Charlotte is a real cesspool...dog or not.

If you have relatives here why don't you get them to spend a little time looking for a place for you?

Hi, and thanks for the replies. My mom and dad are in Kingsport, but they are elderly and not in good health. My sister is there taking care of them after my dad's surgery. I have her looking, and my brother too.. I just sort of wondered if there was still good rural locations there to rent. I know the area has been growing, but when I've visited, it's mostly to mom and dad's - not really taking in the area. What I would really like would be something not in a "neighborhood" or subdivision, more out in the country, and I don't know if anyone ever runs across places like that for rent.

Yes, I have run across those but I think you just have to drive around and look for the "for rent" signs in the yards. I have seen several signs around but very few listings in the paper...I'll never understand that one except that I guess it works.

craigslist always has many rental listings and most have a google maps link. if you are somewhat familiar with the area that should give you some ideas on various costs and locations.
