I am a couple of years shy of 60 but I was forced to retire last year after on-the-job injuries that I sustained left me with limited ambulation & primarilly confined to a wheelchair. I have a severly handicapped, mentally challenged adult step-son. Up until my injuries restricted my ambulation 2 years ago, My wife & I dreamed of retiring to East Tennessee.------ Can anyone recommend any good towns/areas to retire to in the Tri-City area ?---- Are there good Health Care Facilities ( Hospitals, Medical Clinics/Offices ) in the Tri-City area ? If so, where are they ?------Does anyone know any good builders in the Tri-City area that specialize in homes for retirees or the disabled ? ---- As a disabled retiree, the availability of jobs & schools are much less important to us than the availability of good Health Care & Retirement Housing ( not apartments ) ---- I was originally interested in exploring the possibility of retiring to the Cookeville area but, in view of our increased medical needs, I have been informed that the Tri-City area offers better Health Care.---- I still hope to be able to move to East Tennessee & would welcome any suggestions as to any other areas in East Tennessee with good Homes for Retirees + Health Care ? ----Thanks, DK

Good healthcare facilities are abundant in the Tri-Cities. I don't know what your specific needs are but if you dig through these links a bit, you'll find lists of offered services and get a better feel for what's available in this area:

Mountain States Health Alliance
Wellmont Health System - home
Holston Medical Group - The Best Medicine > Home
HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Kingsport
Welcome to Frontier Health
Move to Kingsport: Health Care (http://www.movetokingsport.com/living_healthcare.html - broken link)

FWIW, Kingsport & Johnson City seem to have a greater concentration & variety of healthcare providers than Bristol, but all three cities are very good retirement spots. Here's hoping that you're able to realize your retirement dreams in NE Tenn. soon!
