They may be waiting for an offer on the KMart location since it is owned.

I am wondering about the FH Mall Sears location, as it is reasonably common for the large anchors such as Sears to own their mall real estate. (That was the case here in Huntsville where Sears owned their store in the now demolished Madison Square Mall.)

But if Sears didn't own the FH Mall location, then maybe it closed in conjunction with a lease expiration.

Apparently the JC KMart closed in September of this year. I'm shocked that the Kmart in Bristol seems to be alive still.

KMart and Sears are largely toast. The last KMart in the state of Alabama is in the process of closing, and then there will only be two full-sized Sears stores left in the entire state.

Maybe they will re-edit Ruthless People and change the "I've been kidnapped by KMart" line. That was hilarious 30 years ago, now nobody would get it.

True! Which would make sense for Publix to buy it and demolish, build a brand new store. It's a prime, prime location in Kingsport--especially for a grocery store. Kroger is the only one in that specific area. Aldi opened about a mile and a half east down Stone Drive, but I consider it more of a speciality grocery store.

As far as Sears/Kmart go, yeah, I give that company as-is about another 1-2 years max, then they'll all most likely be shuttered.

Supposely Sears in Kingsport still has an active lease and nothing can be done with it until it expires. So for now if that's true it will remain an empty building and that is walled off from the rest of the mall. The Bristol Kmart closed last year so it's been gone for a while now although it's still listed on the Kmart website as open it is not and hasn't been for over a year now. Rumor also has it that Sears in Johnson City is likely closing but that's all rumor. So far the K-Mart in Kingsport is holding out and I've heard that it's not going to close at least for now.

Publix has opened new-build stores in locations former Kmart stores have been demolished. I could see the trend continuing.

Aldi, 2617 East Stone Drive, Kingsport, Tennessee 37660-5859, is a limited assortment/discount grocer. It focuses on a limited assortment of grocery items and price.

I have noticed several Kmart stores now closed remain listed on Kmart's website.

Wow, those guys are worse off than I thought. I had thought the Bristol KM was closed, but assumed I was wrong when it still showed up on the website.

Default Kmart #3147, 1805 East Stone Drive, Kingsport, Tennessee 37660-4605

Sears Holdings has announced it will close seventy-two stores. The affected stores will be announced later.

I wonder if Kmart #3147 will be among the affected stores.

I wouldn't be surprised. Hardly anyone goes there and the parking lot is mainly used for a nearby office building.
