They need to close that store! It's been lingering and limping along now for years in a terrible state. They have almost half the store closed off by a white drape due to them not utilizing the space.

There are a few dedicated customers who are always in there, but overall it's a pretty dead store. I'm surprised it was not closed 5 years ago.

I think this site would be IDEAL for a Publix Store in Kingsport.

Default Kmart #3147, 1805 East Stone Drive, Kingsport, Tennessee 37660-4605

Sears Holdings has fewer stores remaining. The stores that need to close that remain open should be visible and have an increased likelihood of closing. Kmart #3147 is among those stores.

I would theorize a possible correlation between supermarket Publix looking for a store in Kmart #3147's trade area and Kmart #3147 possibly closing.

Yes! I certainly hope so. I do recall reading that Publix was targeting a 2019 opening in Kingsport. Also, Johnson City's store is planned and will hopefully open later this year/early 2019 as well.

Publix could gain a lot of customers and traction in that Kingsport location though. It's a terrific spot.

So I guess you guys are enormously disappointed that the only K-Mart or Sears closing in the state Tennessee is the Sears at Knoxville Center.

Doesn't really matter, they will all be gone in a few years.

I have read the store closing list. Some successful stores listed have expiring leases. Unsuccessful stores including Kmart #3147 remain open presently.

Long time since I've checked on this forum. But I believe this breaks the news. The old Kmart at 1805 East Stone Drive has been sold, pending bankruptcy court approval, to a UHaul subsidiary along with a batch of other Kmart and Sears stores with plans to convert them to self-storage and moving facilities. Ugly, but at least it sold. Aren't the old Food Lions in Colonial Heights and by Big Lots self-storage facilities now?

Default K-Mart

What a waste of property. There are too many storage places in Kingsport. They have new ones going up on Moreland drive right next to 2 other storage facilities.

That K-Mart is prime retail space. The building may need to go, but it sucks to lose good space like that in the city.
