The Kingsport Grocery Co. is coming back in a big way and its new proprietors plan to expand the concept to Bristol later this year:

The restaurant will be similar to Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria, a chain founded by Beatty with locations in Asheville, Knoxville and Greenville, S.C.

The new Kingsport Grocery will offer gourmet pizza, specialty burgers and microbrews, and it will operate under the “slow food” concept, Beatty said.

“We want to embrace the slow food movement — when you try to buy all of your food that is produced within a 100-mile radius of where you’re at,” Beatty said.

Partners plan the return of the 'Kingsport Grocery Company'

Given these shaky economic times, I just hope the $$$ keeps flowing to support the many retail, restaurant, housing & other projects underway in Kingsport. The city has a relatively large middle class and is anchored by a Fortune 500 company, but is there enough money to sustain the current pace of development & to bring all the plans to fruition...or are we gettin' too big for our financial britches?

I'm cautiously optimistic that these ambitious projects will be realized and turn out well, but I also have some trepidation about the scope, scale & timing of it all, especially in light of the recession.

I loved the Kingsport Grocery Company and and welcome its' revival! Like you Kamoshika, I am very worried that it won't make it. I hope it does!
