My husband and I are moving to JC sometime this spring/summer. His work has transferred him there and I have already found employment. I have two kids 8. 15. From research are JC city school the best- specifically Science Hill? My son plays football and wrestles in high school. My daughter is a gymnast so we need a good place for that also. Lastly, we want to lease a home our first year while we get a feel for the land. Does anyone have any recommendations for these. I was to live within 20 mins max of Johnson city- closer the better. We currently live west Nashville and I'm not interested in commuting any more

Science Hill offers wrestling and obviously football for boys. Gymnastics may be harder to find in the area - I don't have kids.

Johnson City city schools are preferable to any county schools in the region. Washington County schools aren't bad, but aren't up to the standard of Kingsport or Johnson City city schools. Quality really declines after these three school systems.

For rent, what is your budget? Rents for single family homes zoned to city schools are not going to be as cheap as you might expect, and the selection might not be great. I'd say you're going to be looking at at least $1,000 - $1,200/month, more for bigger or newer homes. Considering apartments, condos, or townhomes will open many more options.

Tacking on to Serious's excellent post above:

Science Hill does not have a gymnastics team. Actually, I'm not sure any public school in the area does. Acquaintances during high school participated in private gymnastics teams/gyms.
