Has anybody heard any update on when Dharma Pharmaceuticals (the medical Marijuana facility) will open in Bristol, VA? Supposedly by year end and we are approaching near the end of the year here. Also has anybody got their medical card yet in this area? I looked at the doctors list in this area and it was only a few. I'm curious if anybody has got theirs and if so who did you see and how difficult was it to get? I suffer from pretty high anxiety and depression as well as I'm on Arthotech for Arthritis pain, which I recently stopped that as for one my insurance doesn't cover it anymore and two it kills my stomach. So I'm highly interested in getting a medical card but little information still seems to exist on this and I know the dispensary in this area isn't even open yet.

Are they growing marijuana or hemp for the CBD production? It's good to see the mall site being reused, now if we could just get the casino plans moving along.

No, it's going to be medical marijuana that will be grown, with a CBD focus. Although THC-A will also be presence in some products and even a possible amount of low THC. You have to have a doctor recommend it and register with the state board, then you get an affirmative defense card. Also only select doctor's and NP's are on the list. It's fairly complicated and smoking products and editables are not going to be allowed. Capsules, sprays, tinctures, oils, creams, gels, lozenges, patches, troches, suppositories, and lollipops are what's going to be allowed at the moment. Below are a couple of links that really explain the process well.

Edibles and smoke are huge markets. The rest, IMO, are auxiliary products. That's a huge kneecap right there. While Bristol, VA needs all the success it can get, this seems niche and like a moonshot.

I agree it's a half measure and they've crippled it with restrictions but it's some progress and more than TN is making. I think eventually VA will lift the medical restrictions and even further down the road go to full adult usage. The full list of what is going to be allowed now is going to capsules, sprays, tinctures, oils, creams, gels, lozenges, patches, troches, suppositories, and lollipops. I think this spot will have limited success but obviously much more if they would allow smoke and edibles and I wouldn't be surprised if 2021ish maybe we will see that and then the market will really start to take off.

Little update here. As of July 1, 2020 Virginia actually got an official medical cannabis program in place and it's no longer a crime in Virginia to even have it on you. For non medical patients it's just a $25 fine with no other records. Dharma opened in Bristol on Saturday October 17th. Products are limited but they have three vape carts, three tinctures, a muscle rub, and suppositories. A nasal spray and gummies are coming soon. For now flower will not be allowed in Virginia but that may change next year.

Below is an link of what they have and prices.

I don't know if this is still the plan or not, but at one time, I heard Dharma was moving from Bristol to Abingdon.

If VA legalizes it recreationally, this place's business may very well boom and it would definitely place southwest VA on the map.

Mod Note: Please note that this is the TN forum. Posts about Abingdon, or Virginia cities, should be in the Virginia forum.

To clarify for some that seem to have gotten their knickers in a wad, we have allowed Bristol TN/VA posts for years on here. There is a natural flow to Bristol.

However, where Abingdon is concerned that is a different story. Cities beyond the state border do need to be in their respective states; this includes Abingdon. There are currently 185 threads about Abingdon in the VA state forum. You may very well be missing great threads there and others will not think to look in TN for a VA city thread. As a TN native, patron of Barter with relatives in Abingdon (and Bristol for that matter), I totally get it.

Friendly reminders are just that, friendly reminders. Don't get too upset over an internet message board. And treat others as you would want to be treated. It's 2020. Be kind. Carry on.
