You are in Luck. I happen to know a very good brick layer. He has been doing this kind of work for over 35 years. Not only does he do brick work, but he can also work with stone, block, fire places, tile floors, out door water pools any kind of stone work you can come up with he can do the job for you. He lives in Bluff City, TN. John E. Smith Jr. is his name.

Be very careful around here ! A very good friend of mine is building a 5000 sq ft log-type home in E TN- he's from SW Florida (Sarasota County)- he contracted a very well known local builder and had nothing but problems, and the local subs, appraisers, etc etc declared how great the builder was only to find out these people were covering up for the guy and all of his financial problems etc-......turned into a real disaster for my friend, but this can happen anywhere for sure, it's certainly happened to me

Additionally, there are TONS of 'builders' and subs (mostly lousy) coming to live and find work in TN, from FLORIDA, where many did good work, but some did lousy quick-buck work ! the same 'great' builders, real estate people, plumbers, mortgage bankers, roofers, developers, and car salesmen are now here in TN. Some beat the 'rush' and set up shop 8-10 years ago even !

Do your homework, and get PLENTY of references ! but watch out for the good ole boys in any vertical-line business in ANY state, but TN is growing quickly and that is more reason to be extra extra careful

Three bids, verifiable references, a good contract (preferably drawn by an attorney) spelling out types and grades of materials to be used, all costs, starting and estimated completion date, an allowance for mediation (hopefully you won't need it) and proof of workers comp and liability insurance - among other things. And, finally a sense that you will enjoy a good working relationship with your contractor.
(We're in the business but only do well-regulated HUD programs)
Best of luck!
