It sounds like you would be much more comfortable in West Knoxville.

The poster is not coming off as ritzy or snobby. If anything, they’re coming off as someone that has never been to this area before and is a bit shocked by the widespread abject poverty, trash, economic stagnation and absence of recreational and residential infrastructure that most people that live here accept as normal.

Do a Google image search of "abject poverty", then come back and try again.

Hey, think what you want. I know I’m not a snobby person. I live right next to one of the poorest, possibly _the_ poorest zip code in the United States (16501). Ask Google what the poorest zip code in the United States is. 16501 is one of the poorest zip codes in the country, and it doesn’t look like the stuff I was seeing down there.

At any rate, it’s not going to work out and I appreciate the advice and opinions from people.

Green guy - there's great middle class and upper-middle-class neighborhoods in Boone's Creek, North Johnson City, and in the hills of Johnson City. Check out Mizpah Hills neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods - all $350-600k houses, the developments around some of the Boones Creek schools, neighborhoods around Indian Trail School, Carrol Creek Road between Roan and Winged Deer Park, Watauga Lake houses along the water (mansions galore), etc... No trailers in the aforementioned.

I moved here about a year ago and we found a nice middle-class neighborhood with streets full of middle class houses without junk in the yards close to the Indian Trail School on Roan st for around $180k. I've found that our neighborhood is full of a mixture of age/race but a lot of young families who recently moved in. It's not a dying town.

I think people are just taking offense to their home town being called poor and rundown. Unfortunately, the road network here wasn't planned for a city this size so you end up taking all sorts of country roads to get where you're going, and you inevitably drive by lots of lots that have not been taken care of at all. That said, the people here are INCREDIBLY nice, giving, and caring.
