3. Whole Foods
4. Dunkin' Donut
5. IKEA (the closest one is located at Atlanta)

Now, getting more unrealistic... is it not?

6. More business
7. Good colleges (I mean 'good' ones - 1st tier ones)
8. Museum
9. Passenger Railways to DC, Memphis, and Atlanta
10. Direct flight between TCRA and Northeast (Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, DC)
11. Southwest or AirTran

Population, population, population..

Happy holidays to y'all.
Why would you choose it if it didn't have the things you like? Why would you want to change it to be more like the place you left?

I personally disagree osmotic. I can happily say that from what what I have learned and observed since moving to this area 6 years ago (even though most of that time was in Greeneville, now JC area) that kind of growth will not happen any time soon.
I agree with LauraC whole heartedly, if you want to change it why move/live here?
As for some of those stores, you can get to them or something similar in a relatively short drive time. There is a HUGE Bass Pro shop that was just built just off the 407 (Pigeon Forge) exit on 40, about an hour drive from JC. We have Mahoneys, which is a LOCALLY OWNED sporting goods store that has a lot to offer any sportsman.
Instead of Dunkin Donuts, we have Krispy-Kream. The main one in Kingsport, you can watch through the glass all the donuts being made and YUMMY!. They are made localy and brought to many, mnay convienece stores and grocery stores everyday. We do have a Starbucks and an Atlanta Bread Company and Penera Bread, which also offers free WiFi.
From Tri-Cities you can get direct flights to NY, DC, Chicago, Philly, Charlotte, Orlando and others.
So in my opinion, there is plenty here and if you really want something that isn't, you can get to Asheville NC in 45 minutes, Abington VA in 45 minutes, Knoxville in an hour and a half. Although I have never said,"gee I have to drive to Knoxville to get -----fill in the blank----- I have everything I need and more, right here at home.

How I would LOVE to live in an area with only 1,420 people per square mile! That's one of the reasons I'm looking in that JC area. Currently in the area of Northern CA that my family and I are in, the population density if over 4,000 per square mile. 1,400 seems like a dream to me... Can't wait to get there.

Osmotic-

I totally agree about the Trader Joe's wish! I'm told TN will never have one due to liquor sales restrictions. You know how much wine they sell.

Here in Nash/Franklin we have Southwest, lots of Starbuck's and Dunkin Donuts too. Still waiting for Nordstrom, In & Out, Ethel M, and dim sum.

4. Dunkin' Donut I would pee myself with joy!!!
5. IKEA Nah, I'm a guy and I'm straight....

6. More business Seems to be getting gradually better
7. Good colleges (I mean 'good' ones - 1st tier ones) You better duck.
8. Museum We have "Hand's On" FWIW
9. Passenger Railways to DC, Memphis, and Atlanta NO!
10. Direct flight between TCRA and Northeast (Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, DC) Add Tampa to the list please.

If TN is not destined to have Trader Joe's in the near future, I only wish southwestern VA would bring one. I decided not to wish too much at one time, to keep myself sane.

Because of its political/geographical status, plus VU, I think Nashville is so much better than most other parts of the state, in terms of 'civilization'. Probably you will also see IKEA, before Nordstrom and others. Good for you!

Fist of all, might I remind you that this was my 'WISH' list?

I came to TN because I foresaw its development potential. Unlike some others, I didn't leave northeast because I hated to be there. To me, It looks evident that we will see several things listed in my list happening in the 'near' future, fueled by retiring & relocating baby boomers. As to why I would want to change things to be more like the place I left, I want to say let's remember what has been constantly happening in this country from its birth. It's not something like changing France into England.

"Development potential."

Eww. Wrong answer.

Too bad that this is a free country, Tennessee included, otherwise I'd have to vote Osmotic "out."
